Barcodes - "Our everyday companion"
With its start dating back to Wallace Flint's thesis paper, written in the 1932, the barcode technology has become our everyday companion. From users like the military forces to your local corner stores, this invention has changed how businesses and poeple conduct their daily lives. The development of the barcode technology has allowed for the tracking of cargo and mail products anywhere in the world at any time, thus making it easier to trace the where abouts of all sizes of shipping materials and pay loads. Today, the implementation of the barcode technology has been overlooked by many of us. However, since it's introduction in the early 1930's and the barcode revolution by David J. Collins, it has helped us reduce tracking and inventory time anywhere on the world with that tiny little black and white barcode box, with numbers on the outside of everything you buy. We are sure you will agree that as you rush through your day-to-day life it is very easy to overlook the technology. Even if you disagree, we would like to challenge your barcode knowledge by answering the following questions: - Have you ever thought about how much you really know about barcodes?
- Do you know that the barcode has taken hundreds of different forms, styles, shapes, and colors in its many years of existence?
- Do you know that the patent was filed in 1949?
- As you shop for groceries have you realized that you know little or nothing about this code that transfers products information to the registers?
What most people know or relate to, is when a barcode is scanned, the register will make a beep sound that will let them know that the cashier has succesfully registered their purchase into the Point-Of-Sales (POS) system. Our local research with friends and coworkers also indicated the same results. Not too many people really know about Barcodes. Our website's focus is to expose the history of the modern day barcode and to inspire the public to learn about its potential and future uses.
We encourage everyone to explore the known world around you, so you can find the unknown...
